| Hello hello, it's Nik! Here's the 3-summary Saturday Express! I'm happy to say this week's featured title was written by one of my best writing friends: Shy by Design by Michael Thompson Michael and I originally met on Medium. He'd been writing there for a while. His stuff was good—and getting better. But he kept doing listicles. At one point, I left a comment saying, "Okay, we know you've mastered this. Now try to do something else that's also interesting!" After that, he reached out to me. I told him I was busy. But he kept following up and, eventually, we launched a Slack group for writers together. We read each other's work for feedback, built products together, and even met in person in Barcelona in early 2020 (right before The Disease That Shall Not Be Named™). In hindsight, it's incredible that Mike followed up so many times with me—he's an introvert! Growing up as a shy guy with a stutter, he never thought he'd end up in sales. But one day, he took that gig—selling mortgages—as a challenge. Today, Mike is a writer, communication coach, university lecturer, and more. In his book Shy by Design, he shares a collection of 12 principles he's collected over the years. You can use them to stand out as a quiet person in a loud world. Here's what you'll learn in today's video:
If you want to stay curious, form meaningful connections, and develop a still but strong belief in yourself, watch this video. By the way, I actually helped Mike edit his book, and he even kindly mentioned me a couple of times in his stories. I highly recommend you get yourself a copy. It's fantastic. Not your cup of read? Here are 2 other titles you might enjoy:
That's all I've got for this weekend. Have fun learning, and as always... Happy reading, PS: If you're an introvert too and struggle with communicating with people sometimes, I highly recommend you get a copy of Shy by Design. It's insightful, funny, told in stories, practical, and not at all preachy. An absolute ace of a book! |
