| Hiya, Nik here! No video this week, so instead, I thought I'd share this amazing novel my sister gifted me for Christmas: Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop by Hwang Bo-ReumThere are a lot of good novels about finding the guts to start over. To try anew and go after your dream. The Alchemist. The Why Café. The Midnight Library. But there aren't really a lot of novels about what happens afterwards. Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop is such a book. Being one of Korea's many young people who burned themselves out by following their parents' template for their life: work hard and hope for the best, Yeongju decides to quit and open a bookshop. What she finds is...different. Happier, kind of, but not exactly bliss either. Neither do her barista, her most loyal customer, or the famous writer she interviews in her shop. It's as if her bookshop is a shore for everyone who feels, well, washed up. What does it all lead to? I don't know! I haven't finished the book! I just know it's wonderful, and I'm highlighting a lot—more than in many nonfiction books I've read. Here's one of my favorite lines: "Books don't make us go ahead of or above anyone else; they guide us to stand alongside others." If the book sounds interesting to you, you can learn more about it below. No affiliate link or anything. Just me sharing a read I enjoy.
