The Bestseller
| | Learned Optimism by Martin Seligman Martin Seligman is considered the father of positive psychology. Learned Optimism is his most important book. It explains not just why, based on scientific research, optimists tend to live happier lives, but also what specifically separates them from pessimists (it's mainly about 3 things). Finally, Seligman teaches us how we can develop the 3 key traits of optimists with a few simple exercises from cognitive behavioral therapy. If you want to have a happier, more positive outlook on life and feel like "things are just flowing," read this summary. |
Quote of the Week
"I don't mind being wrong, and I don't mind changing my mind."
— Martin Seligman
The Big 3 From the Book
1. Optimists see problems as temporary, specific, and external. 2. Optimism will make you healthier, happier, and more successful. 3. Try Albert Ellis' ABC technique for a simple way to build more optimism in any situation. |
A Book Brought to Life
When I first got my hands on Matt Haig's The Midnight Library, I went, "Damn! I should have thought of this!" This mega-million bestseller's concept is so rock solid, most decent writers would likely have turned it into something interesting — butt Haig had the idea, and his version is beautiful.
The novel follows Nora, a depressed woman in her early 30s. One night, she teeters on the brink of existence, and finds herself in The Midnight Library — a place where every book contains a life Nora could have lived, ready for her to dive in and try it on!
It's an amazing, wonderfully instructional idea, and Nora learns many empowering lessons from her journey. Here are the 3 you'll master alongside her in today's video:
- You could live a million lives and still not be satisfied.
- Maybe your "best" life isn't the right one for you.
- Life doesn't always make sense — just go on living.
If you want to feel happier about your life as it is, not worry so much, and get inspired by an amazing story, this video is a must-watch!
Dusty But Brilliant
| | The Power of Full Engagement by Jim Loehr & Tony Schwartz One of the first blogs I ever read was James Altucher's. He kept sharing this amazing idea of a daily practice centered around 4 aspects. I'm pretty sure The Power of Full Engagement is where he got the 4 aspects from. This was the OG book talking about managing your energy, not your time. Loehr and Schwartz talk about physical energy, emotional energy, mental energy and spiritual energy — and how to make the most of them all. If you want a better way to manage your life than a full calendar and overflowing to-do list, read this summary. |
The Big 3 From the Book
1. Manage your energy, not your time. 2. Keep track of all four sources of energy in your life. 3. Accept your limitations. |
