Dumbledore is neither the most popular wizard in fiction, nor the best-looking. But he is definitely a contender for "most powerful," and when it comes to being the wisest, he really only has one challenger, if you ask me: Gandalf the Grey from Lord of the Rings.
However, since Dumbledore is advising a young Harry Potter, a teenager growing up in modern times, plenty of his takes are, well, a little more relevant than Gandalf's advice for surviving as a hobbit in a war-torn Middle Earth.
The breadth of the headmaster's life lessons is stunning. He has ideas about ambition...
"It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live."
...courage...
"Call him Voldemort, Harry. Always use the proper name for things. Fear of a name increases fear of the thing itself."
...relationships...
"Indifference and neglect often do much more damage than outright dislike."
...vulnerability...
"Numbing the pain for a while will make it worse when you finally feel it."
...and even death itself:
"To the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure."
Besides his 10 most popular lines according to Goodreads readers (#1 has over 50,000 votes!) and his 10 most underrated quotes, I've also included a few Easter Eggs in this little collection.
What were the very last words Dumbledore ever said to Harry? Actually, they reached him 19 years later, and as usual, they don't disappoint.
Which great quotes from the movies were not in the books? One of my two all-time favorites really saved The Deathly Hallows, in my not-so-humble opinion. 😉
What's the most famous Harry Potter quote ever? Surprisingly, it's not from Dumbledore — but we all think he's the one who said it.

Now, it wasn't a wizard who said that "motivation doesn't last and that, therefore, like bathing, we should do it daily." That was Zig Ziglar — though he sure has a wizard-sounding name.
But since Dumbledore was keenly aware of how big a difference small details could make, I'm sure he would agree that inspiration is no small thing.
I hope you'll find some or even lots of it on this hand-curated list I made, and I'll leave you with my other all-time favorite quote from Dumbledore:
"Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?"
PS: Most quote lists on the internet are lazily copied and pasted together. That's not how I roll. I verified and included the source of each quote, explained my choices in the notes section, and I even made some custom sharing images for all major social media. See below for some samples. Happy browsing!
