Discipline Is Destiny by Ryan Holiday I love all of Ryan Holiday's books about Stoic philosophy. It's an interesting time in history, and he has a way of making this ancient field of virtue, ethics, and meaning accessible to a modern-day audience. Discipline Is Destiny is the second in his 4-part series on the 4 big Stoic values: courage, discipline, justice, and wisdom. In this 3-part manual, Ryan explains how to master temperance, or discipline, in your life. The goal is to use discipline to improve your body, mind, and spirit. Ryan begins with the story of Hercules. Yes, he fought lions with bare hands and beat multi-headed hydras. But before all that? Hercules had a choice. Once standing at a crossroads, one leading towards Vice, the other towards Virtue, Hercules first had to make a decision. He chose discipline—and that's why we still tell tales about him today.
