With the US Election coming up on Tuesday and political division (hopefully) peaking for the time being, I'm bringing you a special read today that'll help us all get along better: What's Our Problem? by Tim UrbanTim Urban is the brilliant writer and comic artist behind Wait But Why, a popular blog explaining complex topics in simple ways, albeit in very long posts. He's covered ideas like space travel, AI, as well as concerns we all have around building a meaningful career, finding a life partner, and using our short time on this earth well. Perhaps you know him from his famous TED talk, Inside the Mind of a Master Procrastinator, where he introduces some of his famous characters, like Instant Gratification Monkey and the Panic Monster. It is partly due to these characters that Tim disappears for long stretches of time, only to then return with a new masterpiece in hand. What's Our Problem? (A Self-Help Book for Societies) is the latest such masterpiece. Trying to find out why politics is such a divisive issue, and why it somehow turns us into yelling monkeys incapable of communicating reasonably with each other, Tim went down his biggest rabbit hole yet—and returned with an amazing framework we can all use to think better instad of just shouting at one another.
