| Hi, it's me Nik! Got some book summaries for you to brighten this cold September weekend (at least here in Munich it is). This week's headliner will show you how to rock life like a First Lady! It's... Becoming by Michelle ObamaTwo quick notes before we start:
Michelle Obama is probably the coolest US First Lady in history. She didn't have an easy start. The South Side of Chicago where she grew up saw huge demographic change throughout her youth. Even elementary school was pure chaos, and Michelle struggled to make herself heard. Her dad died from multiple sclerosis when she was just 27 years old. And time and again, she would hear the same words: "I'm not sure you're X material." X was Princeton. X was Harvard. And X was the White House—even though that last comment came from herself, not her would-be husband and president Barack. Life hasn't gotten any easier since Michelle Obama's early days—neither for her, nor for us—but in Becoming, her memoir, she shows us that times of tremendous change can also be times of tremendous empowerment, if only we're willing to keep moving forward. This is a wonderfully inspiring book with plenty of fascinating details as well as life lessons. I gifted it to both my girlfriend and my sister, and they both really enjoyed it.
