Hi! It's Nik. Welcome to February! To be more flexible and able to bring you brand new bestsellers, like today's book, quickly, I'm going to drop the monthly themes for now. If you want them to come back sometime, you can make your voice heard here. Let's get into the goodness!
If you want to make some big moves this year, this one's for you!
Hot Off The Press
Million Dollar Weekend by Noah Kagan
Noah was the #30 employee at Facebook, but he got fired after a few months. His stock never vested, so no big pay-day either. But the marketing mastermind made his own way — and started over 8 different, million-dollar businesses in the years afterwards, including AppSumo, which now makes $80 million in annual revenue. I've been following Noah's work for years, and so I was honored to get an early copy of his book to summarize for you. In Million Dollar Weekend, he breaks down his process for starting his businesses, and it's a process anyone can follow. It's about overcoming your fears, picking a simple problem you can solve, and then validating that people will give you money to do so as quickly as possible. The book is chock full of great advice, both tactical and strategic, and I highly recommend getting a copy for yourself.* If you ever want to become an entrepreneur and run your own business (in this lifetime, not the next,) read this summary.
Noah's book Million Dollar Weekend was released on Tuesday. Since he was kind enough to give me an early copy ahead of time, we were able to post the summary the next day — and to turn it into a video 2 days later! So if video is your thing, watch that version.
To give you an idea of how practical Noah's advice is, let's look at the supreme way of starting a business: Solving your own problem. Noah says all it takes to do so is asking yourself 4 questions:
What is one thing…
…this morning that irritated me?
…on my to-do list that's been there over a week?
…that I regularly fail to do well?
…I wanted to buy recently only to find out that no one made it?

Speaking of life-changing books, this is another one of those whose core idea will leave a mark: Antifragile by Nassim Taleb. We all know what it means for something to be fragile, like glass: it breaks easily. But what's the opposite? We might imagine something like a log of wood, robust and not easily broken — but that's just resilient. Just because it takes longer to break something does not mean it actually benefits from being shocked. That's what being antifragile is about. It's the capacity of getting better when faced with adversity — and no one explains it better than Taleb. If you want a better way of thinking about trials, challenges, and failure, read this summary.
