Heyo, Nik here!
Headway* might be the most unique book summary app I've come across since starting Four Minute Books in 2015.
Launched in 2019 by a small team in the Ukraine, Headway* now has 25+ million users, won several design awards, and is one of the most playful ways to learn every day that I've seen so far.
If you would like to make learning from books as easy as watching cartoons or playing video games when you were a kid, Headway could be the best book summary app for you.
What makes Headway* stand out from other book summary apps? If you ask me, it's 4 things in particular:
Visual Explainers: Imagine reading a book like tapping through an Instagram story. Each slide only has 1 piece of information and is animated with custom graphics. It's totally seamless and one of the coolest book summary formats I've ever seen!
Daily Insights: These, too, work like an Instagram story, but each slide is a single insight from a different book — for 10 new books every day! This ensures you learn not just deeply but also from a wide selection of books, and it only takes a minute to complete.
Spaced Repetition: Inside each summary, you'll find key points highlighted with a bolt of lightning. If you tap "Remember," that insight will be added as a flash card to your spaced repetition folder. Every day, you can go through your folder, repeat some of the cards, and thus ensure you never forget the most important ideas you've picked up!
Gamification: At the top of your home screen, the app shows you a streak tracker, noting for how many days in a row you've used the app. There are challenges ranging from 5 to 33 days, prompting you to read a different summary each day, which come with trophies you can unlock as you keep going. There are also general achievements for using the app, a progress bar for each summary, and various quizzes to discover your intelligence type and plenty of other things about yourself. All in all, no other app turns learning from books into a game more than this one!
