Why did I make this list? For one, it was the next-bigger, higher-value topic on my list after my list of 414 short inspirational quotes was done.

But for another, quite frankly, I wanted to know — and most quote lists on the internet are poor copy-and-paste jobs with zero research, no sourcing, and tons of misattribution.

What are the most famous quotes ever? What are the lines millions of people know and recognize and love to share? My research took me down plenty of rabbit holes, but the result was worth it.
