Heyo, Nik here!
Why do we always wait for someone else to give us permission to do something great?
Take today, August 18th.
On This Day in History
Did you know that, exactly 1316 years ago, in the year 707, Princess Abe ascended the Japanese throne, becoming Empress Genmei, only the 4th woman ever (of an eventual total of 8) to rule the Japanese empire?
Or that, exactly 785 years later, in 1492, a man named Antonio de Nebrija presented a book to Queen Isabella I of Spain, called Gramática de la lengua castellana? It was the first grammar book of a modern European language to ever see the light of day.
How about August 18th, 1868, when French astronomer Pierre Janssen discovered the element of helium? Or 35 years later, when, in 1903, German engineer Karl Jatho actually flew his own, self-made, motor-engined gliding plane 4 months before the Wright brothers took off?
Jump to 1958, and you have the day Vladimir Nabokov published Lolita, a highly controversial but all-important work of literature. 1976? The Soviet Union successfully lands its 24th probe on the moon, which will return 170 grams of lunar samples safely to Earth just 4 days later — and be the last such mission for 44 years.
And in 2019, only 4 years ago, on August 18th, more than 100 people came together to "bury" Okjökull, a glacier that once spanned more than 38 square kilometers but, with less than 1 sqkm remaining, was pronounced dead in 2014. They installed a plaque where there was once only nature. It reads:
A letter to the future
Ok is the first Icelandic glacier to lose its status as a glacier. In the next 200 years all our glaciers are expected to follow the same path.
This monument is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done.
Only you know if we did it.
Why Not Make History Now?
All of this happened on August 18th. Today — only a few short years apart, at least in the big book of history.
The lesson? Any day is a good day to make history. Why let other people decide when it's our turn?
That's why, at Four Minute Books, we've decided to take our fate into our own hands. Welcome to Blue Friday.
When it first started, Black Friday was just that: a Friday. A single day on which you could get cheap deals on awesome stuff. Great!
Then, everyone started extending through the weekend. Cyber Monday was born! Granted, if someone missed a Friday offer, they now had a second chance. Fair enough, I guess.
But then it became Cyber Week, and Black Week, and last year, everyone started promoting 2 weeks before the event. Soon, it'll be Black Month, and hey, actually, why not just have crazy discounts year round?
Well, at some point, the madness has to stop. That's why, this year, for our very own Lifetime Membership, we won't do a Black Friday deal.
Instead, we'll do Blue Friday, and we'll do it right now, on August 18th, because history doesn't wait — and neither do the people who change the world.
Why Blue Friday?
If history is up for grabs to anyone, that also means that...
Every day is a good day to do something great — and the only way to do something great leads through knowledge.
Blue is the color of the mind. It represents intelligence, efficiency, and logic. It stands for calmness, reflection, and serenity. Blue is communication, trust, and duty.
Blue is soothing. It stimulates clear thought and supports concentration. Blue is serene, strong, and focused. At the same time, it is curious, engaged, and forward-looking.
Blue is the color of the lifelong learner, and that's who we want to celebrate today, on Blue Friday — you, in other words.
Like anyone trying to do anything, let alone make history, the lifelong learner needs tools to accomplish their job. Today, we want to give you those tools, and we'll give you a set that'll last for the entire duration of the job — namely the rest of your life.
Today, on Blue Friday, you can become a Four Minute Books Lifetime Member at a whopping 44% off, a discount that brings the price to just... $44. God must be a mathematician — you can't make this up!
What do you get as a Lifetime Member? Ahem, *clears throat,* all rise!

Okay, time to get personal for a second. In 2014, I was just getting started on my journey as an entrepreneur.
I barely made enough money to pay for rent, so I didn't exactly have a massive "education budget" to spend on learning each month — but one day, I came across an offer that was too good to pass up: Tai Lopez had just released his now infamous 67 Steps to Living the Good Life program, and he offered it for the staggering lifetime fee of...$5.
Better yet, he guaranteed every buyer a gift: The audiobook for Peter Drucker's seminal book, Managing Oneself. I figured the program may or may not work, but at least the audiobook was a steal — and boy, was that an understatement on both accounts.
A lifetime membership, like any continuing education, is what you make of it. It only works if you do, but if you put in the effort, it yields the greatest rewards of all — mastery, self-actualization, and "KNAHWLEDGE," as Tai would say in his signature voice.
I'm sure many people never finished the program, but for the next 67 days, every day, I spent an hour, sometimes longer (Tai is a rambler, but an interesting one), listening to his lessons and ideas. In hindsight, it wasn't so much about the content as it was about showing up every single day — and that's exactly what that initial investment helped me do.
A few weeks into the program, I also listened to the audiobook for Managing Oneself on a long drive. More than any other lesson in the course, this book changed my life.
At 44 minutes (you really can't make this up), it is a short listen, but Drucker's simple questions to ask yourself about your skills and abilities, his concept of a feedback analysis, and his emphasis on communicating with others hit me so hard, I instantly hit replay. I listened to the audiobook 3 or 4 times in a row, and as soon as I got home, I put pen to paper, figuring out what I might be able to offer the market and make a living at — and the rest, as they say, is history.
Wanting to make a dent in the universe is great, and I really hope today's examples will inspire you to do so. Even more importantly however, it only takes a single day to change your personal history — and that day can be any day, even today.
I could never have predicted where listening to that audiobook would lead me, but it was one of the first in a long series of steps that brought me right to today — and on that day, today, I'd like to return the favor:
If you become a Four Minute Books Lifetime Member today, on August 18th, 2023, I will give you the audiobook of Peter Drucker's Managing Oneself on top for free — just like someone did for me all these years ago and changed the course of my life.
All You Need to Know
Phew. That was a lot. Let's recap everything in a few quick bullets:
- Open Wikipedia and put in any date, and you'll see: Any day is a good day to make history. You don't need to wait for anyone to give you permission to do something great.
- At Four Minute Books, instead of waiting around for Black Friday, we're creating our own holiday: Blue Friday, a day that celebrates lifelong learners and their relentless drive to know more, create more, and better their own lives and the lives of those around them. That's you, by the way. :-) We celebrate learning because the only way to greatness leads through knowledge.
- To help you get, grow, and maintain the knowledge you need for your great contribution, we're giving you 44% off a Lifetime Membership to Four Minute Books, which is about as packed with wisdom from the world's best books as it gets.
- As an exclusive, today-only bonus, Nik is throwing in a copy of the audiobook of Peter Drucker's Managing Oneself, a truly life-changing book that only takes 44 minutes to listen to but has the power to change your trajectory forever.
- Big aspirations notwithstanding, the most important history to change is your own — and that, too, can happen any day. Even today, as we just proved to you. We hope you'll become a Lifetime Member and continue that course with us.
Happy reading,
-Nik
