Heyo, Nik here! Please apologize the barebones look of this week's 4 Minute Read. ConvertKit had some last-minute formatting issues with our template, but we should be back in our usual, pretty outfit next week!
This month, we'll share some... June Jewels! We'll cover 4 classic novels from American and English literature, but there'll be plenty of non-fiction goodies as well, of course. Here's how we're kicking off the month:
- A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens (an all-time literary classic about love, loss, society, and character)
- Stolen Focus by Johann Hari (explains your short attention span and how to get it back)
- Stumbling on Happiness by Dan Gilbert (will show you how to use your cognitive biases to become happier)
- The Four Minute Books Lifetime Membership (get over 1,000 audios of our summaries, all PDFs, exclusive guides, and more!)
Let's go!
Hot Off The Press
A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
This 1859 story about two connected families in 18th century London and pre-/post-revolution Paris is an all-time classic. The book has allegedly sold some 200 million copies and supersedes even Dickens' already-popular A Christmas Carol in its reach. Drama. Love. Ethics. A critical view on society. This book has it all, and there are plenty of useful life lessons to be learned along its riveting plot. I love learning from great stories, and I hope you will too.

Quote of the Week
The Big 3 From the Book
1. You can always be "recalled to life;" it's never too late to turn your life around.
2. There are always parallels to the past in any life situation, and we can use them to master our struggles.
3. Sacrificing for other people is, ironically, a good way to achieve purpose and fulfillment.

A Book Brought to Life
Stolen Focus by Johann Hari was one of the first books we summarized this year, and also one of the most important. The more the internet grows, the more distractions attack us on a daily basis — and the more valuable the ability to focus becomes.
This book explains why and how the internet is eroding our attention spans, how social media fully intend to get you addicted to their platforms, and how we can regain our powers of focus.
If you want to have a longer attention span, better self-discipline, and get back your ability to focus for extended periods of time, please watch this video.

Dusty But Brilliant
Stumbling on Happiness by Daniel Gilbert
This is a fascinating, underrated book about happiness. It connects cognitive biases — our brains many flaws and errors — to becoming a happier person. A very smart take full of interesting examples on how a little self-awareness can make us a lot happier. I also recommend watching Dan's TED talk!

The Big 3 From the Book
1. Your brain is really bad at filling in the blanks, but it keeps on trying.
2. You should always compare products based on value, never on past price.
3. Bad experiences are better than no experiences.
